How to Apply – Employer Nomination Scheme
The Employer Nomination Scheme subclass 186 visa provides permanent residency to skilled workers, after an Australian approved employer nominates them. As this type of scheme is a permanent resident visa, it allows all the qualified candidates to live in Australia indefinitely, without any restrictions to study and work rights. This specific visa type incorporates three streams. They are the Direct Entry Stream, the Agreement Stream, and the Temporary Residence Transition Stream. The entire visa process is twofold in nature; the approval of an application from the Australian employers as an Australian business sponsor, followed by the application of visa using the nominated stream.
There are some general requirements that need to be followed in order to receive a nomination. The criteria for 186 visa application are as follows:
- You need to be below 50 years of age.
- You need to meet the requirements of qualification, licensing/registration, and skills associated to the nominated position.
- You need to fulfil the English Language requirements by clearing an English language test. Different streams have different requirements. The least vocational requirement is for the Temporary Residence Transition Stream.
- You need to fulfil the health requirements.

The Temporary Residence Transition Stream (TRTS)
People having a temporary work subclass 457 and have worked in the same profession by employer nomination for at least two years will be allowed to apply using the Temporary Residence Transition Stream. The Direct Entry Stream (DES)
Applicants who haven’t qualified the requirements of the Temporary Transition Stream can apply through the Direct Entry Stream. The Agreement Stream (AS)
Employers who negotiate a formal labour agreement with any of the governments in Australia and sponsor an applicant, he/she will be allowed to choose this stream. The applicant has to meet the skill, language, and age requirements that have been mentioned in the labour agreement.
